Check out our video here, or our additional content on Instagram or FetLife (@ElectraShock), to see it in action.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\"How does it work?\" Neon is one of the noble gases, which is a family of elements which are mostly non-reactive with other elements. Helium, argon, Xenon and Krypton are some of the other gases in this family. All of these gases emit light when electricity is discharged through them. The electricity causes the gas to ionize, which means the gas particles lose electrons and become positively charged ions. This changes the element from the gas state into plasma state, which emits light (the light from fire, lightning and the aurora borealis are also the result of ionization and plasma). Neon plasma is the brightest of all the noble gases, which is why it's been so popular in lighted signage for over a century. If you have a violet wand with glass electrodes that glow orange, those are filled with neon! (And if they glow violet, they are filled with argon!)\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\"How does it feel?\" Because the chain wraps around the body, it acts somewhat like a Faraday cage, dispersing any electricity that arcs directly to it. Wearing metal around oneself should not make electrical play hurt more for the wearer, and it may actually absorb the shock in the areas it covers. However, there is plenty of space between the rows of the chain where you will fully be able to experience the sensations of whatever electricity you choose. The bulbs will still glow, even if they are not being directly touched, as long as they are in proximity to a strong enough electrical field. \u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\"What about my partner?\" When using a body contact device, one partner is electrified, and the electricity finds ground by jumping to another person or object. When using this technique, the person who is NOT wearing the body chain may feel an extra shock when they touch the metal parts of the chain. This can be painful, depending upon how they touch it, the power level of the wand, and other factors like grounding. To mitigate the potential for pain, the non-wearing partner can try to touch only the plastic and glass parts of the body chain, they can spread out the discharge by touching with a larger surface area (flat palm and fingers, rather than just one finger), they can make contact with another part of the body before touching the chain, or they can pick up any conductive device and allow the electricity to arc to that instead. This is a very versatile form of play, and I encourage you to experiment!\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eOur first design is called Astrape, named for the Greek goddess of lightning. It is a chest piece featuring a center chain and five rows of beading, which cascade downward to frame your assets. This design is favored by feminine folks, and we hope to release a more masculine style soon.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe smallest size (pictured) is made with 40 neon bulbs and 240 silver plastic beads. It is about 5.5\" across the top row, and 17.25\" across the bottom row, when in a straight line (not draped down). For every size up, two bulb-sections are added to each of the five rows (about 2.75\"). The medium is made with 50 bulbs, and the large with 60 bulbs. All sizes come with plenty of extra chain, with additional lobster clasps at the ends, so you can keep the ends from dangling (which could zap you or a partner). If you're concerned about sizing, please leave us a note or send us a message with your order. \u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe mini neon bulbs we use come in white, yellow, blue, green and orange. The natural color of neon is orange, so the those bulbs are clear glass. The other colors appear white when not lit, as the inside of the glass is coated with phosphors to create the colored glow. These phosphor bulbs aren't quite as bright as the orange, non-phosphor ones. White and yellow bulbs only come in the 5mm size, while all other colors are made with 4mm bulbs. Other bulb colors (purple? pink?) may be possible by painting white bulbs with heat-resistant stained-glass paint, but I haven't tested this yet.
